Bold and Beautiful Graphics

I adore graphics. For some reason, I am drawn to them. The bolder the pattern and color, the better; rather surprising because I tend to make neutral color choices at home. Not sure what the juxtaposition in my design tastes signifies, but I thought I share my graphics addiction with you and devote this week to all things graphic.

Back in March I happened to catch a Martha Stewart show devoted to Lilly Pulitzer and I was mesmerized by the graphic design of the fabrics and accessories presented. In the 60’s Lilly Pulitzer started out by opening a juice stand, later asking her dressmaker to design a basic dress that would camouflage the juice stains she endured while doing business. She starting offering her designs alongside her juice stand, customers became more interested in her clothing designs, Jackie Kennedy, her former classmate, started wearing them and the rest is “her story”.

Vera Neuman is another designer of bold graphics. Fuzzie Lizzie Vintage Clothing presents a brief overview of her life and design business. Her designs continued to be sold online and at major retailers including Anthropologie, Bloomingdales, and Lord and Taylor.

I think that I am drawn to both these designers because of the bold, colorful and vintage qualities of their graphic images that continue to endure the test of time.

What are your favorite graphical images or design patterns?
