My Own Design Remix
As I said in my last post, Design Remix was one of my favorite HGTV shows. This post is dedicated to that “use what you have” design philosophy.

I came across this picture on House of Turquoise who in turn discovered it on Design Wanna-be. Instantly, I fell in love. The room was designed by Samantha Pynn of Pure Design which airs on HGTV. After studying it for a brief moment, I realized that I could easily recreate this room using what I already have. Here’s how.

I have a similar wall unit that I rescued from a thrift store that I just happened to paint white. Right now it is in my dining area. In my living room, I have a similar shaped chair slipcovered in tan fabric. I can change it with a blue slipcover that I happen to have as well. When I saw the headboard, it reminded me of a project that appeared in a Lowe’s Creative Ideas magazine. If you don’t have a subscription to this magazine, I highly recommend it. It’s totally free and they feature great project ideas. Directions for this shelving unit can be found here. This design can easily be modified to get the look of the headboard featured in this room.
I just might consider using this design as inspiration to redecorate my bedroom when I am ready for a change. I am definitely adding the headboard to my project “to do” list. What’s great about the design is that it can be placed in front of a window, if necessary.
So the next time you are drawn to a designer room, I encourage you to look at the individual elements paying attention to the style and lines of each piece and ask yourself, can I use what I have to achieve the desired look? Do you have any Design Remix stories?

Ooooh, you should totally recreate this room since you have many of the elements! That would look great! I like your blog.
