Dining Room Advice Wanted
Shelbie from mystylemyown.blogspot.com asked me to post some photos of my dining room when I asked for color suggestions for my dining room chairs in my previous post, Primed and Ready! So here they are:

As you can see it is a tiny room. For those of you who are visiting for the first time, I live in New York where space comes at a premium. I don’t know why they call it a dining room because, quite frankly, it is a dining area off a very tiny kitchen. Who is they you might ask? “They” are the realtors who want you to believe it is a dining room instead of a dining area in order to justify the hefty New York real estate prices. It worked, I actually thought it was a dining room, but after living in it for a while, I soon realized it is indeed a dining area.
The front door opens directly into the dining area. The previous owners removed part of the wall, eliminating a small vestibule area. I am experimenting with the curtains as a way of creating separation between the front door and dining area. I might try a folding screen as well. When I come to a decision, my plan is to make new window treatments that coordinate with the dining room chairs and entry way curtains or screen.
Living in a small home though has its advantages. Most importantly, it requires one to remain disciplined about acquiring stuff, distinguishing between needs and wants, and thereby making conscious purchase decisions. I welcome that and it works for me.
So that’s my dining room story. I hope to hear from you real soon!

Hello! Is that Panneling on your walls I see? I’m jealous of that. Is there a table that goes with the chairs? If so, My first thought was Black or a very dark espresso brown. Then they would really stand out.
Maybe with a white or creamy fabric that matches the window moulding. Just my first thoughts. I think that might look good.
Thanks Shelbie! Yes, its paneling (on the sideboard wall) but the fake kind from, I’m guessing, the 70’s. I sanded, primed and painted it the same colors as the walls. Also, my dining room table is various shades of dark stain in a subtle striped pattern. My husband is working on atttaching the legs we made for it. Appreciate your input.
I think wooden screens would be very nice as i find curtains can get dirty and be rather awkward when it catches on anything but hey keep up the good DIY
