Happy New Year!

New Year’s Eve was low keyed and relaxing. I began the day making bread. No bread machine, no mixer, no recipe and no measuring – all I need is a bowl, the ingredients and my hands. It used to be a regular occurrence; however, over the years it has turned into a “holiday only” treat. Later, my friend, April, came over bearing baked goodies and Sorrel ( a yummy drink make from Sorrel leaves). We talked for a while and I reciprocated her kindness with one of my baked loaves. Then the family and I just hung around the house, played the board game, Life which was a good segue into New Year’s Day. We rang in the New Year in our pajamas, toasting sparkling cider.
I have to say, I am not one for new years resolutions per say. For me, the new year is an opportunity to take a few moments to be still, reflect, and take inventory of my life, assessing whether I am on track and headed in the right direction with respect to my goals and dreams. After much thought and reflection, I determine if adjustments and fine tuning are in order so that I can be more aligned with my authentic self.
I decided my goal from this day forward is to simplify life and return to the simple things that bring me joy; taking time to kick back, bake, sew, or create just for fun, rather than making it part of a mission. Also, journaling and writing more because it helps me achieve a mental clarity and peace that allows me to better navigate through life. So the bread I baked is symbolic of what I want more of – simplicity and a return to basics.
I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a wonderful New Year full of possibilities, bright new beginnings and continued blessings.
Any resolutions, goals, dreams for 2010 and beyond?

Yum. That bread is making me hungry.
