Are Your Best Days Ahead of You?

Yes that would be me jumping Double Dutch with some of my mom friends. During this mom’s only gathering at my house, we jumped rope, played games, stuffed our faces and forgot about our everyday life responsibilities for a few hours. What is the connection between this picture memory and the song “My Best Days Are Ahead of Me”? Life is about attitude;after all, when is the last time you’ve seen “grown folks” jumping rope? By the way, I highly recommend it; guaranteed to make you feel like a kid again. And when it comes to music, it is such an important part of my life. It lifts me up, motivates me and puts me in a good mood when I may not be having a good day. I love all music that inspires me and touches the core of who I am. For me, its about the message rather then the genre. When Danny Gokey, returned and performed this song on American Idol, I connected with the lyrics instantly because they are an accurate representation of how I live my life.

Are you approaching another birthday, especially a significant one with fear and trepidation instead of joyous celebration? My philosophy is that no matter what your chronological age may be, it’s never too late to do anything you want to do because as the song says “age is nothing but a number”. I take time to dream, challenge myself (presently learning to swim), welcome new experiences and give thanks for the opportunity to do so. I once heard Dr. Oz give the best definition for happiness. He said “happiness is the difference between where you are and where you want to be. Periodically I ask myself, “am I where I want to be?” And if the answer is no, “I plan the work and work the plan” (as Will Smith’s grandmother advised him to do when he was growing up) so that I can move toward where I want to be. Can you tell, quotes are one of my favorite things? Anytime I hear something profound that touches me, I have to write it down. So there you have it, my personal approach to life so that my best days continue to be ahead of me.

How ‘bout you? Are your best days ahead of you? How do you live your best life?

Enjoy your weekend!
